National Foundation Day in Korea (개천절)

Every year, October 3rd is a national holiday called National Foundation Day in Korea.  It was established in 2333 A.D. (戊辰 year), that is, on October 3rd of the first lunar calendar of Dangun origin, to commemorate the founding of Dangun Joseon, the first nation-state. Before the founding of the present Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea had changed from the appearance of various countries such as Joseon, Goryeo.

Therefore, Arbor Day can be considered a national celebration that commemorates the founding of Korea, a cultural festival that celebrates the birth of a new cultural identity, and our unique traditional holiday that expresses gratitude to the heavens as a people.

Currently, the ceremony to celebrate National Foundation Day among young people in Korea has disappeared.

However, the meaning and importance of National Foundation Day is quite great to simply spend National Foundation Day as a "rest day." This is because National Foundation Day is the day when the history of Korea began in earnest and became the foundation of the country.

National Foundation Day is a national holiday established to commemorate the founding of Gojoseon, the first nation of the Korean people. In 2333 BC, Dangun Wanggeom founded Dangun Joseon, the first nation-state, which became the beginning of today's Republic of Korea, and in honor of this, National Foundation Day was established as an official national holiday. It can be seen as a meaningful day for the Korean people to celebrate the foundation of a single nation and to thank heaven for this. Therefore, on October 1, 1949, the 'National Day Act' was newly enacted and promulgated, and at that time, October 3 was designated as National Foundation Day and designated as a national holiday.

Regarding National Foundation Day, Korean tourist attractions include Sajik Neighborhood Park Dangunseongjeon Hall, Ganghwa Manisan Mountain, Ganghwa History Museum, and Namyangju Dolmen Park.
